Channels

A channel is one place you post to: an Instagram account, a Facebook Page, a LinkedIn company page, a Google Business location. Channels lists them, says which need you, and connects new ones.

The networks

Release Social posts to eleven networks: Instagram, Facebook Pages, Threads, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, X, Pinterest, Bluesky, Telegram and Google Business.

  • Instagram: a professional account (Business or Creator). Posts, carousels, Reels and Stories.
  • Facebook Pages: the Pages you manage. Posts, Reels and Stories.
  • Threads: posts.
  • LinkedIn: a company page you administer, or your own profile. You choose which in Create.
  • TikTok: videos. Until TikTok approves Release Social, your TikTok posts stay private ("Only you"); the channel shows Limited and says so.
  • YouTube: videos, with a title, a category and a playlist.
  • X: posts and threads, through your workspace's own X developer app, so what X charges for each post goes to your X account.
  • Pinterest: Pins, each on a board; the board is the channel.
  • Bluesky: posts.
  • Telegram: posts to a channel through your bot.
  • Google Business: updates on your locations, and their reviews in Inbox.

Connecting a channel

Choose Connect a channel and pick the network. Most networks open their own sign-in page and bring you back. Release Social asks only for what it needs to post and to read comments and results.

  • Leave every permission on. If one is turned off, nothing is connected and the page says to try again with all of them on.
  • One sign-in can bring several channels. A Facebook sign-in, for example, brings each Page you manage.
  • The page you come back to says Connecting…, then that the network is connected and what it can now post, or that it wasn't connected and why, with Try again.

Three networks start in Release Social:

  • Bluesky: your handle and an app password. Make the app password in Bluesky → Settings. It is used once to sign in and never stored. Never use your main Bluesky password.
  • Telegram: your bot's token and the channel. Add your bot to the channel as an admin first. The token is stored encrypted.
  • X: your workspace's own X developer app. The form says how to make one at developer.x.com: turn on OAuth 2.0 as a Web App with Read and write, add the Callback URI the form shows, and paste the app's Client ID and Client Secret. Save and connect X then opens X's own sign-in. The secret is stored encrypted and never shown again; Remove the app takes it away, and X channels stop posting until an app is back.

Each channel counts toward your plan's channels. A disconnected channel doesn't count.

The list

The top line says how many are connected and how many need you. Each row shows the network and account, where it posts ("Feed, Reels and Stories", "Page: Northwind Coffee"), its state, followers over the last 30 days with the change, and when it last posted.

  • Connected: all is well.
  • Sign in again: the network stopped accepting Release Social's access. See below.
  • Limited: it posts, with a limit it explains, such as TikTok's private posts.

Add another lists the networks you haven't connected yet.

When a channel needs you

Networks end access from time to time: a changed password, an expired sign-in, a permission turned off. The channel then shows Sign in again, a banner at the top of Channels says so in words, and Home lists it under Needs you.

Choose Reconnect and sign in on the network again. Nothing is lost: the banner says how many scheduled posts go to it. Sign in again before their time and they go out as planned. A post that already failed because of it shows Reconnect and Try again on its page; see Plan and queue.

Disconnecting

Open the channel's menu and choose Disconnect. Before anything happens, it names the pages that stop and the posts whose sends are cancelled. The posts themselves stay, and so does what already went out. You can connect it again later.

Who can connect channels

Owners and admins, and anyone whose role has Channels turned on. Everyone else sees the list, and the page offers to ask the person who can.
